Biscuit harms kids
AMONG your favourite snacks, there may be chocolate biscuits called Oreos. But you probably never knew that with every mouthful, you may be harming your health.
A San Francisco lawyer filed a lawsuit in early May against Kraft Foods, the maker of Oreos. Though he withdrew his charges on May 13, he said his move was only to get people to know about the dangers of trans fat found in the black and white biscuits.
The lawyer, Stephen Joseph, argued that the trans fat that makes the filling creamy and the biscuit crisp is too dangerous for children to eat.
He said there was a big difference between his lawsuit and others that were brought against tobacco and McDonald's.
Consumers, Joseph said, already know that tobacco is bad for them and that McDonald's food contains a lot of fat. But "trans fat is not the same thing at all. Very few people know about it."
The US National Academy of Sciences' Institute of Medicine, which advises the government on health matters, said last summer that this kind of fat should not be eaten at all. The organization said it is directly connected with heart disease and the buildup of bad cholesterol.

HUNDREDS of millions of people across the world held their breath. Each one was anxiously watching a tiny robot on their TV screen. Would the robot actually manage to probe inside one of the world's greatest mysteries - Egypt's largest pyramid?

The robot "Pyramid Rover", measured 12cm wide and 30cm long and had a height that varied from 11cm to 28cm. During the exploration it was linked to a main computer by a fibre-optic cable that carried video signals and controlled all aspects of the robot's movement.
"Pyramid Rover" crawled about 65 metres up a 20 by 20cm tunnel before drilling a hole in a stone door and then inserting a camera to film what lurked inside.
Scientists had hoped that the robot would help find clues to the secret of how the pyramid was built. But when it climbed inside, the next mystery was revealed - another locked stone door.
"Archaeological excavation is just like this - when one mystery is discovered, another comes along," said professor Qi Dongfang from Peking University. "The exploration has taught us that people should learn to use high technology in archaeological excavation."
It may take the scientists another year of hard work and more new technology before they finally know the answer, said Zahi Hawass, director of Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities.

Can money buy happiness? Various people have various answers. Some people think that money is the source of happiness. With money, one can buy whatever he enjoys. With money, one can do whatever he likes. So, in their minds, money can bring comfort, security, and so on. Money, as they think, is the source of happiness.
But there are still a lot of others who think that money is the root of all evil. Money drives people to steal, to rob, and to break the law. A lot of people became criminals just because they were in search of money. And in the Western countries, there is nothing that can＇t be bought by money. Many people lose their own lives when hunting it.
I think that money is essential to life and we cannot do without money. But even though money is necessary to life, it can＇t buy happiness. Happiness is not something that can be measured by money. It is a state of mind. One can have plenty of money, with which he can buy whatever he wants, and at the same time he is not happy because he is never satisfied or he is troubled by various kinds of problems. Therefore, although money is necessary for a happy life, it can＇t buy happiness.
